Introduction
GTA – or Grand Theft Auto for those unfamiliar – and Red Dead Redemption, have become Rockstar’s two headline acts. And while concrete information on GTA 6 is starting to leak, not having us expect the game’s official announcement anytime before the end of the year, Red Dead Redemption 3 has been left out in a dry. To my surprise, despite the massive commercial success of Red Dead Redemption 2, which came out about five years ago, rumors on its follow-up are still sparse.
It’d be illogical for Rockstar to ditch one of its most precious gaming series. So, it seems almost certain that Red Dead Redemption will continue to captivate. That leads us to the inevitable next question: When can we expect Red Dead 3? Here’s what we have learned so far.
Red Dead Redemption 3’s Early Development May Have Started
Given GTA 6 is on its way, it seems fair to assume that Rockstar will eventually work on RDR3—if they don’t already have some troops quietly pre-prepping. Just bear in mind that Red Dead Redemption 2 had an 8 year development time, and we didn’t hear about it until they were far enough along in production.
But there is no official word from Rockstar on if and when Red Dead Redemption 3 will ever be a thing: Dev teams’ resources will be centred on GTA 6 before moving to the next biggie. But that’s not to say Georgia hasn’t had RDR3 thoughts above the water.
Red Dead Redemption might even be happening – at least according to a MyTimeToShineHello on Twitter/X. The account tends to leak movies more than games, so read the following with a pinch of salt. But, with GTA 6 seemingly right around the corner, it would actually be more prudent for Rockstar to look beyond.
Red Dead Redemption 3 Release Date: Not Yet
Without any confirmation or announcement, we can only speculate the release date for this game. But, assuming the release of GTA6 around 2025, we could see Red Dead Redemption 3 as late as 2030.
Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 were separated by a cool eight years, releasing in 2010 and 2018. Rockstar has been slowing down its own game production lately to support them longer and stop crunch, so another eight-year gap — meaning 2026 for RDR3 – seems incredibly unlikely. Shame.
RDR3: Possible Setting
The possibilities for the direction of Red Dead Redemption III are endless. In terms of the setting, we can probably expect another U.S./Mexico round. But, sadly, not much’d be different.
With Rockstar Has Already Set Its First GTA Game In London, And With Peaky Blinders Making So Many People Aware Of What Birmingham Looked Like In 1919 Since It Started To Air On TV Four Years Ago, This Could Possibly Be Rockstar’s “One More Thing”, Set Outside Of The US. Is There Any Bigger Surprise Than Blaine County?
But, with Red Dead Redemption 2 set in 1899 and the first game ending in 1911, a Birmingham setting of late-1910s/early1920s would still work. It wouldn’t be difficult either to spin it off into an existing story, since there are plenty of characters Rockstar could have ‘escaping’ the Wild West for England. Also in demand is a Native American setting, or something more South American.
Red Dead 3: Story
As previously stated, the current front-runner story-wise is Landon Ricketts. Ricketts wouldn’t be far removed from the John Marston/Arthur Morgan template as he’s another famous gunslinger whose stories have yet to be told. In Red Dead Redemption 1, we meet old Landon Ricketts but his tale is barely told and it’s a story that no doubt Red Dead fans are hoping to explore.
Another common Ask is to “Find out about Charles Smith’s backstory.” Charles was one of the most popular characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 and his story basically writes itself: Born a child of Native American and African-American descent, he ultimately joined Dutch’s gang.
Still, there is a lot of story to be told in between: Charles’ links to Native American tribes, and his underground fighting life are definitely story material. It would be a nice change of pace to make Charles Smith the protagonist, as well as casting Red Dead Redemption 3 in high relief for first-time players.
Red Dead Redemption 3: Probably Next-Gen Exclusive
Whenever RDR 3 comes out, you can bet Rockstar Games will develop it for Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles — the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X most likely.
Additionally, considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 came out on PC, it’s quite likely we’ll see a Red Dead Redemption 3 port as well. But who knows, maybe by then RDR3 comes out and we are all busy playing Townscape or putting on our VR headsets.
Since GTA 6 will also be next-gen exclusive, and they are likely to release it first according to frequency of releases from Campbell (Rockstar’s Co-President) in his statements. So, most probably RDR3 won’t ever come on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
A World Ready to Be Taken in its Vast Brilliance.
Rumored to take players back to the Wild West of late 1800’s America, RDR3 is said to be a sprawling and immersive affair. Its look envelops an exquisitely drawn canvas, brimming with contrasting biomes – from the chilly crests of alpine heights to the blisteringly hot expanses of desert.
You’ll be turned loose in the sprawling playground with enough exciting stuff to do – hunting, fishing, exploring and engaging side quests!
Pulses-raising Combat Mechanics
Red Dead Redemption 3’s combat looks thrilling, with the game offering players a wide range of weapons and abilities to overpower their formidable foes. With guns, melee weapons and explosives at your disposal you will be thrust into a series of fast paced, exhilarating bouts that will truly test both your skill and ability to survive.
Character Development Tailored to You
The deep character customization in Red Dead Redemption 3 will be a major aspect that makes your character truly feel like yours.
Selecting male, female or non-binary gender will allow you to further customize by choosing different hairstyles and clothing, while learning new skills from hunting and fishing to combat abilities empowers players with the freedom to be who they want in this world. So get ready to hop on and leave a dent in the West!
Cooperative Multiplayer Experience
The game is said to be bringing in a fun multiplayer mode that will allow us hook up with our buddies and take on missions and traverse the world together. By forming posses, players can band together to tackle challenges cohesively.
The Story of Red Dead Redemption III.
The third chapter is said to chronicle the early years of the Van der Linde gang out in that untamed west, prior to Mr. Marston’s doings and Red Dead Redemption proper.
Players will be able to see the origins of iconic characters like John Marston and Jack Marston. This potential announcement has fans buzzing, ready to delve deeper into the captivating Red Dead Redemption storyline.
Sadie Adler: Sadie Adler, a popular Red Dead Redemption 2 character, has fans excited about RDR3 and the possibility of her being front and center. Français -> Anglais : She’d certainly be a great protagonist.
Jack Marston: Jack Marston, the son of Red Dead Redemption protagonist John Marston, was just a little boy in the first game. Though he grew up to be a skilled gunslinger and fierce brigand. Some fans suggest that Jack’s story isn’t finished, and he could be the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 3.
Game Platforms
(No platforms have been announced by Rockstar Games yet.) However, it’s likely that the title will be released on PS5 and XSX. There’s also the possibility that it could come to PC like Red Dead Redemption 2 did, after initially releasing on consoles.
PS4
As of now, there is no official word on when or if Red Dead Redemption 3 will be released. Question is…..It’s ambiguous if the game will be on PS4 or not. However, it could be made available on PS4 via backward compatibility, allowing even PS4 owners to experience the game regardless of its original platform.
In the meantime, players can get lost in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4.
PS5
That would suggest that Red Dead Redemption 3 could launch on PlayStation 5 (PS5), given the established pattern and Rockstar Games’ history. Rockstar Games has a history of releasing their games on multiple platforms, including last + current-gen consoles.
